In the celebration of the Summer Reading theme of All Together Now, which focuses on friendship, unity, and kindness, Locust Grove Library has made a connection to Shrek – because Ogres have layers and the movies depict all three themes.
June 16th:
Slumber in the Swamp: Come in your PJs, bring your favorite stuffed animal friends, build a pillow fort, and watch Shrek with us!
Shrek (2001, PG): A green ogre living a life of solitude in a far away swamp, Shrek is suddenly invaded by a horde of fairy tale characters, such as the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs, all refugees of their homes who have been shunned by the evil Lord Farquaad. Shrek decides to offer Lord Farquaad a deal; he will rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona , who is intended to be Farquaad’s bride, in exchange for peace and quiet at his swamp.
June 30th:
The Royal Family: Make a family tree with us as we watch Shrek 2!
Shrek 2 (2004, PG): In this sequel to the 2001 hit, Shrek travels with his princess bride Fiona to meet the in-laws, who are unaware their daughter has turned into the same kind of green ogre as her husband.
July 14th:
Ogres vs. Royals: Dress as royalty or as an ogre for a showing of Shrek the 3rd!
Shrek the 3rd (2007, PG): When the King of Far Far Away dies, Shrek sets out to find the rightful heir, while Prince Charming tries to seize the kingdom.
July 28th:
Fairytale Dance Night!: Move and groove to Shrek music as Shrek Fest concludes with a showing of Shrek Forever After
Shrek Forever After ( 2010, PG): In the fourth installment of the animated franchise, Shrek must win back his wife and save his friends after he’s catapulted into an alternate version of Far Far Away where ogres are hunted and Rumpelstiltskin rules the land.
