Young Adult Specialist, McDonough Library and Fairview Library
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assisting teens in locating and using library resources in print and digital formats.
  • Collaborating with Collection Development staff to recommend materials for purchase.
  • Planning and presenting entertaining and educational programs and activities for teens and tweens; collaborating with other departments to plan all-ages programs and events.
  • Participating in outreach such as community events and school visits.
  • Maintaining accurate data on library usage.
  • Basic circulation and shelving duties.
  • The work requires considerable physical activity, with much bending and reaching to obtain books, etc. There is frequent lifting/pushing of objects weighing up to 25 pounds (marginal) and use of equipment requiring a high degree of manual dexterity (essential).

The ideal candidate will have:

Bachelor's degree (may consider Associate's degree or equivalent in combination with relevant experience)
Broad general knowledge of young adult literature and information resources.
Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal & written communication skills.
Basic computer and clerical skills with emphasis on accuracy and thoroughness.
Three or more years of public contact work with teens, children, or families.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Hourly position beginning at $14-$18 an hour depending on education and experience. Benefits include generous paid vacation, sick leave, optional medical & dental insurance under State Health Plan and participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Georgia. Service accrued under TRS is transferable.

Library Assistant, Part-Time $12-$16/hr
Where: Multiple locations

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Branch Manager, aids patrons in finding materials to meet their information and recreation needs. Performs circulation and patron registration tasks. May assist with program planning and presentation. Other duties as required.

Supervisory Controls
Works under the supervision of the Branch Manager. Routine tasks and projects are done with little supervision. In the absence of the Branch Manager, reports to the Assistant Branch Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities
None

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate Degree. College graduate preferred.
Experience: Two or more years of public contact work.
Any combination of experience and education providing the needed skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Clerical skills with emphasis on accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Excellent people/interpersonal skills.
  • Broad general knowledge of literature and information sources.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and office equipment.
